Supervision and Consultation

Experience

I am a seasoned supervisor, having supervised medical students, psychiatry residents, pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows at NYU-Langone, Bellevue Hospital Center, Columbia University-Teachers College, Rutgers University Graduate School of Professional Psychology and Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus. I have extensive experience supervising inpatient and outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals and groups; forensic evaluation in criminal and immigration contexts; and outpatient psychodynamic and experiential therapy for individuals and couples.

As a supervisor, I cultivate a safe, respectful and supportive relationship with each supervisee. I adopt a position of unconditional positive regard and, as with my patients, I assume that my supervisee is doing the very best they can at their level of training, skills and self-awareness. When teaching or modeling new skills, I endeavor to reduce supervisee anxiety and shame which are common when therapists attempt to learn complex models such as AEDP and EFT. In addition to teaching skills, I nurture my supervisee’s openness to and awareness of their own internal responses and use these in ways that enhance their understanding of the therapeutic relationship and their patient’s internal worlds.

I particularly enjoy supervising clinicians who are new to couple and family work and are looking to start using EFT, although I am not an ICEEFT-approved supervisor and cannot supervise therapists seeking EFT certification.
